Le vin

Terroir : Exposition sud-est, sur des sols argilo-calcaires sur sous-sol argileux. Monopole de 3.92 hectares.

Vinification : Après un égrappage total ou partiel selon les millésimes, la fermentation en petits contenants et un pressurage doux assurent une vinification optimale. Selon le profil du millésime, la cuvaison peut durer de 15 à 20 jours.

Élevage : 12 à 14 mois en fûts de chêne de France, avec 30 à 50% de fûts neufs.

Note de dégustation : Superbe bouquet aux parfums de fruits et d'épices doublés d'une note de fût. Intense, plein et délicat au palais, il est d'un velours enchanteur. Très bon potentiel de garde.

Accords mets et vin : Gibier à plumes, poularde à la crème, fromages bourguignons.

Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with a brooding bouquet of dark berry fruit, ripe cherries, warm spices, baking chocolate and subtle soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, it's rich and powerful, with ripe tannins and a voluminous core of fruit, concluding with a long, heady finish. When I tasted this wine from barrel, Bouchard's Frédéric Weber observed that analytically this 2018 is very similar indeed to the 1947 vintage of l'Enfant Jesus, and in its controlled but overt ripeness the analogy seems even more obvious from bottle.

Beaune Grèves is often described as among the best of the Premier Cru vineyards in Beaune. This Bouchard monopole, however, is the heart if the vineyard, mid-slope with plenty of gravel in the soil to ensure good drainage. The fruit ripened early and well in 2019, and the results were delicious, with a very floral cast to the ripe black cherry fruit aromas. It fills the mouth with velvety tannins and lingers to a delightfully complex finish. Drink 2024 - 2039
